Department was started in the year 1952.  Prof. Madhavi. K was the first faculty of the department.  During 1950’s the Pre-degree course was in the part of colleges.  So three more teachers and plenty of student are there in the department later in 2000 the Pre-degree course bifurcated and settled us part of school education  as plus two.  Since 2008 the annual system changed and semester system introduced.  Now the department was smooth going with the curriculum.  At present Dr.S.Sreekumari is the HoD of the department ‘Spandanam’ a cultural club is functioning as part of cultural programmes and several cultural activities are conducted each academic year.
